Course Information:
This is a TURNKEY FULL-YEAR COURSE with daily lesson plans for Game Design that we have created ourselves. This is a course designed to meet district and state curriculum standards. We follow ISTE Standards & CTE Game Design Curriculum Standards in this course.
This FULL YEAR course is designed to give you, the students, a well-rounded introduction to game design. Students will gain a solid foundation in game design theory and practical skills while fostering creativity and critical thinking. This course, designed for students in grades 6-12, introduces the fundamental principles of game design, providing a comprehensive overview of the creative and technical aspects of crafting interactive experiences. Throughout the program, students will explore key concepts such as storytelling, character development, game mechanics, and level design. They will also gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools and software to design and build their simple games. Emphasizing collaboration and critical thinking, the course aims to cultivate students' creativity while fostering a deeper understanding of the principles that make games engaging and enjoyable. By the end of the course, participants will have developed a basic proficiency in game design that builds on real-world lessons to create a basic understanding of game design structure and coding.

Learning Environment:
The course utilizes a blended classroom approach. The content is fully web-based, with students writing and running code in the browser. Each unit of the course is broken down into lessons. Lessons consist of presentations, video tutorial links, learning activities, and projects that assess student’s mastery of the material from that unit.
Programming Environment:
Students write and run JavaScript programs in the browser using the Visual Studio editor, which is free to download. This course also gives the teacher other platform options to pick from.

Important: Classes are 75 minutes long, so depending on how long your classes are and the pace your students can learn, it will change how many days your class will take to get through this full-year course. I recommend throwing in catch-up days or reward days throughout the semester.
How my classroom works:
In my classroom, we use Google Drive and Classroom to store and turn in assignments. Students can use Microsoft Word or Google Docs when working on their assignments and projects. The same rule applies to presentations; they can use PowerPoint or Google Slides. As the teacher, it is up to you to decide how you will have your students receive and turn in their assignments, projects, etc.
